Are you ready to lead a team of talented software developers and shape the future of Brand New Day’s IT department?


We are Brand New Day, a financial odd-one-out in the Netherlands. We are young, bold and have been growing like weeds for 14 years. You will be a part of an IT department of fifty professionals, working on domains like data, infrastructure, security and applications. You will work closely with the head of IT security operations & architecture, the head of IT projects, the head of IT product development and the branch manager of our Bangkok development office. You will have frequent interactions with the data team, the quality assurance (QA) team, the scrum master and the end-users of our software solutions.


As head of software development at Brand New Day, you are responsible for managing, mentoring and improving a team of twenty software developers, QA specialists, a scrum master and an IT recruiter who work on various projects across the IT department. Your responsibilities include ensuring the quality and security of the code and collaborating with other teams and stakeholders towards achieving company goals. You are part of the IT leadership team and report directly to the manager of IT projects and development.


What will you do as software head of software development?

You will have a key role in defining and executing Brand New Day’s IT strategy and vision. You will oversee the entire software development lifecycle, from analysis to deployment and maintenance. You will ensure, in cooperation with the product owners, that the software solutions meet our business requirements, and adhere to the best practices and standards. You will also

  • lead, coach, and motivate a team of software developers and QA specialists with different levels of experience and expertise
  • continuously improve development processes, building and scaling high performing technology teams
  • conduct performance reviews, provide feedback, and support the professional development of your team members
  • hire new staff and guide the onboarding process with a dedicated recruiter
  • troubleshoot and resolve any technical issues or challenges that arise during the software development process
  • stay updated on the latest technologies, trends, and innovations in the software industry and evaluate their potential for us
  • Ultimately, you will measure and improve the four (five?) key DORA metrics, visualizing them and guiding Brand New Day to elite devops maturity.

Job requirements

This is what we expect of you

You have a solid background in software development, with at least five years of experience in a senior or lead role. You have a strong knowledge of software development principles, methodologies and best practices. You are experienced with

  • developing software solutions using .NET, C#, SQL and Azure
  • managing software projects using agile, scrum and devops
  • leading and coaching software development teams
  • communicating and collaborating with stakeholders
  • solving complex technical problems and making sound decisions


You are also

  • a natural leader with excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • a team player with a positive and proactive attitude
  • a lifelong learner with a passion for innovation and improvement
  • customer-oriented, with a focus on delivering value and quality

Please note that while working from home is totally fine, working closely together in person is also important to us. We are looking for someone who lives in the Netherlands and can join us in the office for at least three days a week.
