Job description

We are seeking an experienced Database Administrator (DBA) who is into optimizing and managing robust data solutions using Azure databases. The ideal candidate combines strong technical skills with the ability to educate development teams and drive continuous improvements, and is proactive about issue resolutions. 

Key responsibilities 

  • Design, deploy, and manage data solutions utilizing Azure databases (Azure SQL Database, Managed Instance) 

  • Work with Microsoft SQL Server Enterprise databases in both on-premises environments 

  • Monitor and optimize database performance through effective query tuning, indexing strategies and resource management 

  • Develop and implement robust backup, recovery and high-availability strategies to ensure minimal downtime and data loss 

  • Lead initiatives to address database-related challenges, educate representatives from development teams and foster best practices 

  • Ensure databases comply with industry standards for security, data integrity, and regulatory compliance, including encryption and user access management 

  • Proactively identify and resolve database issues through monitoring tools and troubleshooting logs 

  • Maintain clear and comprehensive documentation for all database systems, configurations and processes 

Job requirements

Essential skills and experience 

  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft SQL Server Enterprise and Azure database solutions 

  • Strong expertise in Azure SQL Database and associated cloud-native services 

  • Deep understanding of database performance optimization techniques, indexing and query tuning 

  • Hands-on experience with high-availability and disaster recovery solutions such as Always On high-availability groups and SQL Server clustering. 

  • Proficiency in scripting languages, notably T-SQL, PowerShell and dbatools. 

  • Solid knowledge of security best practices, including encryption and user access control. 

Preferred qualifications 

  • Certifications such as Azure Database Administrator Associate or Azure Solutions Architect Expert 

  • Experience with Azure services like Cosmos DB and Data Lake, and/or Databricks 

  • Knowledge and experience with DevOps methodologies and CI/CD pipelines for database deployments 

Soft skills 

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex database concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders 

  • Strong leadership and mentoring abilities to facilitate knowledge transfer and improvement initiatives 

  • A proactive and analytical mindset, capable of independently identifying and addressing issues 

  • Eye for detail and an ability to deliver high-quality, reliable solutions
